About
Meet Marcy
I'm a historian and a guide in Maastricht, leading tours for the city of Maastricht and at Maastricht Underground. It's a city where Roman foundations, medieval walls and wartime tunnels all fit into one afternoon's walk. I love finding the story behind the stone: who built it, what they were worried about, and what they got wrong.
Roaming History is where I share those stories. Some are about places: fortresses, cathedrals, polders, battlefields. Some are about what the past can teach us at work. During the week I work in technology, and I keep noticing that today's problems have been tried before, often by someone in chain mail. That's what my History has a point. series is for. All of my stories are true, sourced, and never boring, I hope.
I grew up an Army brat in the United States and Germany, so travel was my first classroom. Later I made it official, with a Master's in Public History from Norwich University and a Bachelor's in Communications from the University of Alabama. I also take photos wherever I go, from sunlit cloisters to windswept battlefields, and many of them end up in these stories.
When I'm not writing or guiding, I'm a proud mother of three, grandmother of two, wife of one, and loyal companion to a couple of perfect pitties.
Good history is built on facts, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring.
